Gorizia Museum of Fashion and Applied Arts
Borgo Castello 13, Gorizia - Map
A land suspended between Italy and Central Europe. Gorizia is a place of encounters, contaminations and an empress: Maria Teresa of Austria, promoter of textile production and jasmine cultivation for silk, paved the way for a long tradition of excellence. Today, inside the Dornberg, Tasso and Formentini Houses in Borgo Castello – which overlook the heart of the city – there are incredible collections of clothes, jewelry, gloves and handbags from the 1700s to the 1900s. A section of the Museum is dedicated to traditional craft activities, from the shoemaker’s shop, to the hatter, to the tradition of bobbin lace, a precious 17th century Gorizia ornament. Stripes, squares and flowers are the thematic fil rouge of the exhibition.
