Prosecco DOC is an Italian excellence, the expression of a well-defined territory, which extends between Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia, an area that’s rich in tradition and with a favorable climate that gives the Glera grape great elegance, balance and a contemporary charm.
The Prosecco Designation of Controlled Origin was born in 2009 from the union of winemakers and wine-bottlers of 9 provinces between the Italian regions of Veneto (Treviso, Belluno, Padua, Venice and Vicenza) and Friuli Venezia Giulia (Gorizia, Pordenone, Trieste and Udine) in order to indissolubly link this wine to its territory of origin.
The Consortium voluntarily associates the various categories of producers – winegrowers, winemakers and sparkling wine producers – and is committed to the improvement and development of the Denomination, the implementation of promotional and enhancement actions, the safeguarding and protection of the denomination in Italy and abroad and compliance with the rules set out in the Production Regulations. The Consortium protects and promotes the uniqueness of this wine, a symbol of Italian lifestyle in the world. These are the numbers of the most produced and most exported sparkling wine in the world: 24,450 hectares of vineyards, 11,609 wineries, 1,169 wineries, 347 sparkling wine producers and an annual production of 500 million bottles, 77.8% of which is sold abroad.
